6.363 seconds, 6.38 seconds, 6.18 seconds!

These are the results achieved by Chinese speed climbing athlete Deng Lijuan in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of the women's speed climbing event at the Paris Olympics. Under immense pressure, this normally serious girl pushed herself to the limit, achieving a speed of 6.18 seconds that she had never reached in her daily training.

On August 7th, Deng Lijuan won a shiny silver medal and stepped onto the podium, finally smiling.

"I don't usually smile, but my coach was teasing me and making me laugh," Deng Lijuan said in the mixed zone, finally cracking a smile.

If the 100-meter sprint is one of the most anticipated events in the Olympics, then the speed climbing event held at the Lebourget climbing gym in Paris is undoubtedly the fastest event in the Olympic Games, without a doubt. Even the women's speed climbing event is completed in just over 6 seconds, while the men's speed climbing has already entered the era of 4 seconds. It's worth mentioning that this is the first time speed climbing has been included as an Olympic event. When climbing was included in the Olympics three years ago, only one gold medal was set for men and women, with a combined event that included speed, difficulty, and bouldering.

"Beep! Beep! Beep!" The countdown sound echoed through the venue, and the audience fell into silence. Participants in the speed climbing event not only need superb technique but also a courageous heart.

"Deng Lijuan is a competitive player, and her biggest characteristic is stability," said Wang Yunlong, the leader of the Chinese climbing team. While everyone held their breath, he had full confidence in Deng Lijuan.

A total of 14 athletes competed in the event, with the Chinese team securing two spots. Poland and Indonesia were strong opponents for the Chinese team. In the previous qualifiers, Polish athlete Aleksandra Miroslaw twice broke the world record she had set herself, ranking first in the qualifiers with a time of 6.06 seconds, clearly showing her strength.

The two Chinese athletes performed well, with Deng Lijuan achieving her personal best time of 6.40 seconds in the qualifiers, ranking fifth and advancing to the next round. Zhou Yafei also achieved her personal best time of 6.389 seconds, ranking fourth in the qualifiers.

On August 7th, the competition reached its final stage. The quarterfinals were intense battles, with Zhou Yafei being eliminated by a Polish opponent, stopping at the top eight. Deng Lijuan, on the other hand, became more and more courageous with each round, eliminating her opponents one by one, leading by only 0.006 seconds in the first round.

After smoothly advancing to the finals, Deng Lijuan continued to perform exceptionally well, ultimately achieving a silver medal with a time of 6.18 seconds, setting both the national and Asian records.

"The atmosphere of the competition was great, and the audience was enthusiastic, which made me more excited during the competition," Deng Lijuan remained calm as always after the competition. "Actually, I performed well in all three rounds, nothing particularly special." When asked about the gap between her and Miroslaw in the finals, Deng Lijuan expressed a sense of regret but also found something to gain. She regretted not winning the gold medal but gained confidence and direction for her future efforts.

"The performance at the Olympics has made me more confident and allowed me to enjoy the atmosphere of the competition and the process," Deng Lijuan said. She believes that progress comes from both her and her opponents, pushing each other to achieve their personal bests. This is exciting and points her in the direction of future improvement. "The silver medal result will make me look forward to future training even more."
